Situated close to the town of Zante and closest to the airport is Kalamaki; the perfect tourist resort for those who enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, and a more peaceful holiday with just a handful of bars and restaurants on offer.
The beautiful beach lies just one kilometer from the large, popular resort and is one of the longest on the island, stretching from Crystal beach down to Laganas. Soft sands and warm clear waters makes for a perfect spot to swim, as well as the shallow waters ideal for all the family. If you’re lucky the famous Caretta Caret turtles breed on this beach, so keep a watch out for them.
The laid-back appeal to Kalamaki raises the popularity of the resort each year, including the quieter evenings sipping a drink watching the sunset amongst the olive and citrus groves. Not so lively and busy like Laganas but still has the chilled buzz to it, Kalamaki nightlife consists of some dotted bars and taverna’s.
Do a spot of shopping close by on the road adjoining to Laganas, selling fine leathers in handbags and purses, or stock up on souvenirs for the family, with turtle related merchandise.
Many of the resorts accommodation lies within the village and the area around, including several top rated hotels offering all-inclusive and full facilities, or if in need of a little privacy there are plenty of beautiful rooms and studios to let all year round.
Kalamaki has the charm of traditional Greek nights, with the majority of tavernas offering delicious dishes; moussaka, gyros and Kleftico, as well as fire dances and shots of ouzo.
